Pretty much every woman has a story about her experience with a sexist man. They’re a dime a dozen. Even in the #MeToo age, there are still some very vocal subsections of society that cling to outdated perceptions of women like Donald Trump clings to his toupee.
But when we see such unambiguous public displays of chauvinism, it’s still bound to elicit a heated response.
Such was the case when a man took to Twitter to post his list of tips for women on ‘how to be beautiful’, including being thin and wearing pink clothes.
The man, ‘motivational speaker’ Alexander Cortes, accompanied his list with a string of replies, enforcing his views that “only a man can tell a woman how to act”.
According to Cortes, in order to be a ‘beautiful woman’ you must:
1. Be thin
2. Be able to cook
3. Have long hair
4. Wear make-up
5. Be feminine
6. Be graceful
7. Be sensual
8. Shave (should without saying)
9. Be fashionable
10. Wear pink and feminine colors
11. Love men
12. Listen to men.
He also told other men to use his list to “vet” women, and says, “If you show them this list and they become angry, that lets you know that they are harpies that you never want to breed with and that they would be terrible mothers.”
As if the use of the word ‘breed’ wasn’t cringed enough, Cortes’ views did not go down well with the large majority of respondents to the post.
One wrote: “You’re joking right!? I’ll be damned if a man is going to tell me how to act! I bet you’re single?”
Another added: “Only a man could make a list of all the attributes he wants in a woman (by the looks of it because he’s desperately insecure) and make out that’s something all men want. I feel sorry for you, you must miss out on meeting some truly amazing people.”
Another simply asked: “What century are you living in?”
But Cortes was undeterred, and responding to messages, he wrote: “I have a personal policy that I only talk to women who are 8+s on a 10 scale so if I ignore your reply, don’t feel bad you can probably upgrade yourself if you follow the road map that I’ve given you. Beauty can always be learned.”
“If you’re angry, it might be because your excess body fat is causing hormonal fluctuations that make you emotional. You can fix this by going to the gym and working out and unfitting yourself. Fit women are pretty women.”
He followed this up with a string of selfies, saying: “I see a lot of you women are desperate for my validation and attention. Here’s a selfie that you can use to satisfy your fantasies.”
“If you sign up to my newsletter, I’ll teach you my hair care regimen. Having a magnificent mane that is the envy of women, men and lions is no mistake.”
